Connecting Gmail changes the address Sprout applies to jobs with. It's optional, and everything works whether you connect it or not. Here's what it does. 🔗
💡 What it changes
Sprout always applies from a dedicated address rather than your everyday one, so we can track employer replies and handle verification steps for you.
Without Gmail connected, that address is a unique
@whisperpost.ioaddress we create for you.With Gmail connected, it's an alias of your own address instead, in the form
[email protected], with a unique tag for each application.
Both work the same way. Employer replies arrive in your personal inbox, every message is recorded in the app under Applications → the job → Inbox, and we can read either address to pull verification codes and portal links during an application.
🤔 Why connect it?
The main difference is familiarity. An alias of your own address is recognisable as yours, so employer mail is easier to search for and less likely to look unfamiliar in your inbox.
If your @whisperpost.io applications are working fine for you, there's no need to change anything. 🙂
⚙️ How to connect
On web: click your name at the top left → Account → Connect Gmail
On mobile: tap the settings icon at the top right → Connect Gmail
🔄 Disconnecting or switching to a different Gmail
Go back to the same Account Settings screen you used to connect. The Gmail Integration section shows which account is currently connected, with a Disconnect button beside it.
To switch to a different Gmail account, disconnect the current one first, then connect the new one. Once disconnected, new applications go out from a @whisperpost.io address until you connect another Gmail.
⚠️ Disconnecting doesn't change applications you've already sent. They keep the address they originally used, and employer replies to them carry on arriving as before.
💡 The Gmail Integration section also shows a Last synced time, which tells you when Sprout last checked that mailbox.
📧 This is not your login email
The Gmail account you connect is separate from the email you sign in to Sprout with. Connecting, disconnecting, or switching your Gmail doesn't change your login, your subscription, or your credits. See Can I Change the Email I Log In With?
📌 What happens to applications I already sent?
They keep the address they were originally sent with, and they carry on working exactly as before. Connecting Gmail only affects applications you send afterwards.
⚠️ This means you may have both kinds across your applications, which is completely normal. To check which address a specific application used, open the Applications tab, tap the application, select Application from the options, and look under Application Credentials.
🔍 Finding employer mail on a Gmail alias
Search your mailbox for to: followed by your alias, and set the search scope to All Mail so it covers Spam, Trash, and anything archived.
If messages are turning up outside your inbox, check Settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses in Gmail for a rule catching mail to that address.
