Some employers send a one-time code or a verification link before they'll let you into their application portal. Because Sprout applies using a dedicated address rather than your everyday one, that code goes there — and you can read it right inside the app. Here's how. 🔐
📥 Check the Inbox for that specific job
Every application has its own inbox:
Open the Sprout app and go to the Applications tab
Select the job application you're trying to verify
Click the Inbox section at the top right
You'll see the messages that came in for that job, including:
🔐 One-time codes and portal access info
🔗 Login or background check links
📬 Recruiter follow-ups and interview replies
💡 The Inbox is per-application, so make sure you've opened the right job — a code sent for one employer won't show under another.
🔑 Already have an account with that employer?
If the application required creating an account on the company's site, Sprout saved those login details for you. Go to the Applications tab, tap the job, and click Application Credentials to see the username and password we used. The address we applied with is shown there too.
⚡ Pro tip: if a portal is rejecting your login, check here first — the saved credentials will usually get you straight back in, and you may not need a new code at all.
📨 Check your personal inbox too
Job-related emails also reach your personal inbox, so the code may already be sitting there. It's worth a look in your spam and promotions folders — automated verification emails from employer portals land there fairly often.
🔍 To find it quickly, check which address the application used under Application Credentials, then search your mailbox for to: followed by that address. If you're on Gmail, set the search scope to All Mail so it covers Spam, Trash, and anything archived.
⏳ The code expired or never arrived
Most employer codes are time-limited, so if some time has passed the safest move is to request a fresh one from the employer's own portal, then check your Inbox for that job again.
If nothing arrives at all, reply here with the job title, company, and email address used and we'll check what was received on our side. ⚠️ Please don't create a second application to the same job to try to trigger a new code — that will use another credit and can confuse the employer.
💬 Still Stuck?
👉 If the code still isn't showing up, reply here with the job title and company and someone from the Sprout team will take a look. 😊
