If an application went out saying you need visa sponsorship or aren't authorized to work — and that isn't true — it's almost always because the Citizenship Status field on your profile is blank or set to the wrong value. Here's how to fix it. 🛂
✅ Set your citizenship status
This is the field employer screening questions are answered from, so getting it right fixes every future application at once.
Go to your Profile tab
Open Personal Information
Find Citizenship Status and set it to the option that matches your situation
Save
💡 It's worth checking this even if you think you filled it in — a blank field is treated as unknown, and screening questions like "are you legally authorized to work?" or "will you now or in the future require sponsorship?" can end up answered conservatively as a result.
📤 What about applications that already went out?
Applications that have already been submitted can't be edited or recalled — they're with the employer at that point. Updating your profile fixes everything sent from that moment on, but not what's already gone.
If a specific application matters to you, the fastest route is to contact the company directly, mention the role, and let them know the work authorization answer on your application was recorded incorrectly. Employers deal with this more often than you'd think and are generally happy to correct it.
If the job is still in your Review Queue and hasn't been submitted, you may still be able to cancel it from the Applications tab — hover over the job, click the three dots at the top right of the job card, and press Cancel. This is available up until your tailored resume and cover letter have finished generating, and the credit is returned to your balance.
🔍 Check what was actually submitted
To see the answers that went out on a specific application, open the Applications tab and tap the job. That's also the quickest way to confirm the fix worked on the next application you send.
💬 Still Stuck?
If your Citizenship Status is set correctly and applications are still going out with the wrong answer, that's a bug and we want to know.
👉 Reply here with the job title and company plus a screenshot of what was submitted, and we'll investigate. 😊
